There is no place like home..So what Happens When Home is Never Safe! (Misonceptions about Black Love, Black Pain & Black Expliotation
This is my reaction to a newspaper in Florida newspaper called the SunSential. George Zimmerman’s father Robert Zimmerman wrote a letter to the newspaper making some bullshit cliam about how is son is not a racist.. because he has Latino blood flowing through his veins… and he has alot of black people intermingled in his family and his life ! WOW! SO this must be the reason he killed 17-year-old, 150 pound Trayvon Martin right? Cause has minority blood running through his veins. In a nice way he basically said my son isnt a killer because he is minority.. i.e. he understands the struggle! But rather he killed him because …. o wait, he didnt give a reason.
Justify the reason your son didnt kill someone simply because they hold similar position on the social hierarchy of things make you even more the bigot.. i.e. Im not racist because I have a black friend.. or Im not racist because my brother’s mother is white… I simply cant be!
Bull again… Granted it doesnt make you a overt racist who used macroaggressions toward the every person you classify as not being worthy to breath the same air as you. No… your the microaggressor! The veiled racist, who tolerates the masses just because you have too! The type of person who knows its wrong to feel a particular way about a group of people, but still in his/her heart of hearts… still can’t quite wrap their heads about the fact that black doesnt mean really mean different from you. You still look at blackness, or black people as dangerous, dark, dirty, mysterious and savage! The contrast is skin, the deep wave and kink of hair disturbs you! You believe what the 6pm news perpertuates about African Americans and you thank God that you live where you do, your children does to school where they do and they have the friends that they do….. This is the type of threat that makes a person cross the street when you see a black male, or wonder why a black male is walking with a paper bag in your gated community! Much like the overt racist of Klu Klux Klan, your threatened by the blackness and masculinity of a Black man…. the type of threatened that would make a man pull the trigger and end of the life of a young boy! But news flash, this still makes you a bigot too! And I hate the kind like George and Robert Zimmerman… who feel the way they do, but play the race card to veil their racist views!
But enough my rant…. See the letter for youself.. And you decide… and then it will be back to my rank!
The tragic events of February 26 are very sad for all concerned. The Martin family, our family, and the entire community have been forever changed.
The portrayal of George Zimmerman in the media, as well as the series of events that led to the tragic shooting are false and extremely misleading. Unfortunately, some individuals and organizations have used this tragedy to further their own causes and agendas.
George is a Spanish speaking minority with many black family members and friends. He would be the last to discriminate for any reason whatsoever. One black neighbor recently interviewed said she knew everything in the media was untrue and that she would trust George with her life. Another black neighbor said that George was the only one, black or white, who came and welcomed her to the community, offering any assistance he could provide. Recently, I met two black children George invited to a social event. I asked where they met George. They responded that he was their mentor. They said George visited them routinely, took them places, helped them, and taught them things and that they really loved George. The media portrayal of George as a racist could not be further from the truth.
The events of February 26 reported in the media are also totally inaccurate. Out of respect for the on-going investigation, I will not discuss specifics. However, the media reports of the events are imaginary at best. At no time did George follow or confront Mr. Martin. When the true details of the event become public, and I hope that will be soon, everyone should be outraged by the treatment of George Zimmerman in the media.
Our entire family is deeply sorry for the loss of Trayvon. We pray for the Martin family daily. We also pray that the community will grieve together and not be divided by more unwarranted hate.
The Zimmerman family will have no further contact with the media prior to the resolution of the investigation. It would be greatly appreciated if the media would respect our privacy.”
This was my initial reaction……
This is absolutely sad and devastating! I dont care how Latino he is or how many Black people he had in his family! He was wrong! I understand a father’s love and need to defend his child. But HE WAS WRONG AND HE SHOULD BE PUNISHED! I hate when people throw the race card…. i.e. he cant be racist cause he was latino and grew up in a Spanish speaking home… that’s called entitlement! Justification of wrongdoing because of the historical institition and its wrong doings on you…. But justify death, justify murder? Does how Latin he is and how many black people in his family rationalize why he took a beautiful life.??? Why he met non-force with force? This just hits too close to home for me! Trayvon looks exactly like one of my best friends younger brothers… And this summer a person I grew up with was brutally slain by the police force in my hometown! There is a disregard for Black lives (especially males) that continues to exist and continues to be swept under a rug! There is nothing Mr. Zimmerman can say about his son, that will justify his taking a life of a boy! I boy who was half the size he was and probably half the strength! If he really felt threatened, couldnt he have taken’t this taclked the young boy and then call the police! I hope this death eats his son alive! I hope he believes in a higher power.. he needs one! I hope the media persecutes him more!
Rant continued..
I know in my heart if Zimmerman was the victim and Martin was the perpetrator.. there would be no doubt as to the fate of this young boy.. He would be jailed and facing Murder I… because this death was premeditated, well thought out and without being provoked! But because this “Hispanic” (his father’s words, not mine) man looks white…he gets the privilege of free until without a reasonable doubt! Aside from the red flashes of anger that haunt my eyes! I keep seeing the word entitlement, and privilege that silently holds a price over our Black lives!
And for once… in all the years Ive been willing and open to try to break down these walls and misconceptions about the race I belong too..and today, I declare that I’m tired… I’m tired of defending my blackness. I’m tired of the blantat disrespect for Black life that states its easier for us to be the killer, yet its hard to conceive we are often the victim! Unless of course its black on black violence… than we are both… because we destroy black lives.. and not white… The simple truth is this about Travyon Martin and any black male on God’s green earth.. before he is black, before he is a black male, before he is a black males at the wrong place and time! He is male…and most importantly he is human!
This blatant misconception that black life in no way or form resembles white life, in struggle, moral values and love is NOT TRUE.
Yet this difference is the reason why this conversation is being had to among millions of people !
The reason why a human mother, father, sister, brother, aunt, uncle, grandmother, grandfather, friend, girlfirend etc. will wake up and face the truth that their loved one isnt coming back! Martin’s death highlights all this racial tension and problems that revolve about the lack of respect we have for Black life! It undercuts and underscores that it still is a life….a life that was nurtured, loved and cared for! He was more than just a black man… He was man.. and he was created in God image… so therefore he was important to people in this world!
And it goes to show when we lose Black life, that isnt valued in this country… .We undermine Black pain! We say this pain has no right to exist we again we are never the victims, yet we continue to act like one! It doesnt allow the full human experience to be our own. The underscore of Black life and Black pain that allows a man to say that his son isnt racist because he is a minority!
The type of Black exploitation and lack of understanding and tolerance for Black pain and mourning to say when the details of this case is released.. The public will be outraged at the way the treated my son… My son who is not racist because he is the of a certain descent! My son who killed a child…Created pain for communities all around America. and possibly the world! But had the nerve to say I feel sorry for the Martin’s family (sympathy)… rather than then giving their empathy to this family and the citizens of the world who took this family into their hearts and felt their pain because Trayvon Martin could have been anyone one because looks just like their son, their brother, their friend or themselves.. and because they realized what I realized! that today and every other day that man goes free is a reminder of the place in which the rest of America views Black America!
How a man could openly kill a boy, even the dispatcher said to leave the boy alone and there was no probable cause to arrest this 17 year-old. But with all these facts he is able to walk free.. see another sunrise, feel the love and hugs from his loved one!
Have his father defend him in a newspaper article, while one family is preparing to bury their son and dreams with him!
Today is an hard to be Black in America!
I wrote this about 1-1 1/2 weeks ago! Im happy I decided to post to the public!
